As the capital of Maryland, Annapolis is also considered part of the Baltimore and Washington Metropolitan area. It lies on the Severn River about 2 miles up from the Chesapeake Bay and about 25 miles south of Baltimore and 25 miles east of Washington DC. This city has a great deal of history as it was founded in 1649 by Puritan exiles from Virginia and later also became home to the United States Naval Academy in 1845. Today you will find many places to go and things to do in Annapolis MD. The recently renovated and expanded Annapolis Mall is the perfect place for all your shopping needs. Located a few miles south from the mall you will find the historic Downtown Annapolis district, which has several historical landmarks and attractions, a nightlife filled with a bars and clubs, fabulous restaurants, outdoor activities, annual events and much more. If you make way to visit Baltimore and Washington DC, be sure to spend a couple days in beautiful Annapolis MD.
