The city of Baltimore and Maryland both played pivotal roles in the War of 1812 and birth of our great nation's independence. Now, 200 years later, this legendary city and state will celebrate with a three-year commemoration kicking off with the Star Spangled Sailabration.
Going down June 13-19 on Baltimore's Inner Harbor, this international maritime festival is expected to bring hundreds of thousands of visitors to the Inner Harbor as dozens of authentic, tall ships and Navy ships travel into the Baltimore waters for everyone to see and explore.
Authentic tall ships, rife with big sails and all, will come from a variety of different regions from around the world including Great Britain, Canada, Columbia, Brazil, Ecuador, and Mexico. So far, 120 countries have been invited to bring ships to the Star Spangled Sailabration.
Activities during this free, week-long festival will include on-ship tours of both the tall and Navy ships, spectacular commemoration events, crew competitions, visits from international dignataries and Navy leadership, fireworks, educational activities, public art displays and much more.
Mark it down on your calendar, June 13-19, 2012 for a free series of maritime events celebrating American Independence at the Star Spangled Sailabration in Baltimore.
