It couldn't be a more exciting time for Baltimore area Indy car and race fans. The Charm City now has its very own Indy car series, The Baltimore Grand Prix that kicks off its inaugural appearance September 2-4 through the streets of Downtown Baltimore.
The Grand Prix is gearing up to be one of the biggest events of the year in Baltimore with over 30,000 people expected to attend throughout this three day race and festival of speed situated right next to the Inner Harbor.
The two main events will be the Izod Indy car and American Le Mans series races featuring drivers like Marco Andretti, Tony Kanaan, and Danica Patrick. In addition, three support races - the Firestone Indy Lights Series, the Star Mazda Championship Presented by Goodyear, and the F2000 Championship Series - will be going on all weekend to ensure non-stop racing action.
In addition to the races, there will be tons of entertainment and interactive fun for the whole family featured throughout the weekend. The infield party zone will play host to some great concerts throughout the race weekend including headliners, Collective Soul, as well as The Bridge, Jimmie's Chicken Shack, All Mighty Senators, and a number of local bands.
Kids will enjoy the Family Fun Zone with interactive exhibits, games, and more. The Action Sports Zone will get you up close and personal with a number of interactive race exhibits and the Party Zone will feature a wide array of delicious food and tasty drinks.
Of course, party animals can rest assured that the festivities will spill out into Downtown Baltimore at a number of nightlife venues, restaurants, and other entertainment hubs throughout the city making the weekend a big ol' party for the surrounding area.
In the end, the Baltimore Grand Prix should have a huge economic impact on the city, give residents something new to look forward to, and just be another reason on the long list of why the Charm City is so great.
